Overview

sportsmed delivers specialist and allied health services across Adelaide and regional South Australia, with a central site in Stepney and multiple remote clinic locations. Their legacy IT environment was tightly bound to Burnside Hospital’s infrastructure, limiting autonomy, scalability, and control. As the organisation expanded, it needed a modern, secure, and compliant technology platform capable of supporting ongoing growth.

The Challenge

  • Limited infrastructure independence — operations were dependent on Burnside Hospital’s shared systems
  • Fragmented security and device management across sites and user groups
  • Ageing on-premises Active Directory and mixed environments creating complexity

The Solution

CyberSquad IT Consulting designed and executed a carefully staged transformation to separate Sportsmed SA’s infrastructure from Burnside Hospital and deliver a modern, cloud-first foundation. Key initiatives included:

  1. Infrastructure separation & hybrid migration
    We successfully segregated Sportsmed SA’s systems and migrated its Microsoft 365 environment to a dedicated, managed tenancy — ensuring clean data boundaries, improved compliance, and enhanced administrative control. To maintain legacy application performance during the migration phase, we provisioned dedicated dark-fibre connectivity between Sportsmed’s Stepney headquarters and CyberSquad’s Tier-1 datacentre.
  2. Modern identity and access management
    CyberSquad transitioned Sportsmed SA from its legacy Active Directory Domain Services to Microsoft Entra ID, enabling modern authentication, simplified device onboarding, and secure, conditional access policies across the organisation.
  3. Advanced security and compliance framework
    We implemented Managed Detection and Response (MDR) security across all endpoints and systems to meet healthcare compliance and cyber-insurance standards. This was complemented by enhanced patch management, vulnerability remediation, and multi-factor authentication to further harden the environment.
  4. Device standardisation & policy enforcement
    A full hardware refresh program introduced standardised, business-grade devices across all sites. Microsoft Intune was deployed for centralised device control, software deployment, and security compliance monitoring.
  5. Ongoing managed support & governance
    With the transition complete, CyberSquad assumed full responsibility for IT operations. This included remote helpdesk support, scheduled onsite visits, and structured governance reviews to maintain reliability, security, and continuous improvement across the environment.
