The following guide demonstrates how to use the VMware Horizon Client to connect to your Virtual Desktop.
Your computer may need to be restarted during the process so please ensure you have saved your work and closed all other running programs.
Navigate to https://ss1.horizoncloud.com.au in your web browser and click the Install VMware Horizon View Client download link to be redirected to the VMware download web page
You will be presented with the clients available for each operating system. Firstly ensure you are working with the latest version via the drop down box (currently version 4.0)
If you are using Windows to connect to the server, click the Go to Downloads link on the right hand side of the page
Again ensure you have the latest version selected (currently 4.5.0) then continue by clicking the blue Download button. This will start downloading the client to your default downloads folder on your computer
Once the download has completed, open the install package to be presented with the following screen (if you receive any security warnings, click run or yes to continue). Click Agree & Install or Agree & Upgrade to start the installation
Your computer may automatically restart at this point to install required Windows updates. The installation will automatically continue once the computer has restarted.
Click the Finish button to complete the setup and restart your computer if prompted.
The new VMware Horizon Client icon will be visible on your desktop. If you were performing an upgrade you have now completed the process, if you were installing the Horizon Client for the first time please continue to the next step.
Launch the client by double clicking the desktop icon. You will be presented with the following screen – select either of the highlighted options to add the default connection server: ss1.horizoncloud.com.au
After the client resolves the connection server it will present you with the login page, enter your username and password to continue
Once you have authenticated correctly your assigned desktop pool will present itself. Double click to initiate the connection to your machine
You will have now successfully connected to your desktop. To return to your local machine, position your mouse cursor at the top of the connection window in the center of the screen – a drop down bar will appear allowing several options. Select the minimize button to return to your local machine
Once you have finished with your desktop press the Start Button then Shutdown
Should you be unable to perform the Horizon View client installation due to lack of Administrator credentials or if you’re using someone else’s computer, VMware offers access to your desktop by connecting through your chosen Internet Browser. See HorizonCloud HTML Access KB article for instructions
